Site specific sculpture at International Objects, Brooklyn, NY
From the gallery: Emily Janowick’s sculpture consists of two elements: a reprocessed iron clawfoot bathtub, and a vinyl book of photographs taken at sunrise at the location of the exhibition. Bound to a weight at the bottom of the tub, Janowick invites observers to thumb through the waterproof album at arms length through crystal-clear water. To encounter this simple gesture and the sublime beauty of watching the sunrise at the place where they currently stand, the viewer must face the earth, arched over the cool white enamel of the basin. Through their work, Janowick aims to subtly disrupt the familiar architecture of the space, to create a rift in the familiar rhythm of time, while providing a surprising, delicate moment of pleasure.
